Direct entry from 34 counties - MoH minister to meet today

Minister of Health Sheikh Dr Basil Al-Sabah will be meeting with the representatives of Kuwait Airways and Jazeera Airways today (Thursday). The minister will discuss the proposals presented by the two companies to start a direct flight from 34 banned countries without the need to spend 14 days in another country, local daily Al-Qabas reported.

According to the report, the proposal includes a classification of 34 countries into two categories as high risk and low-risk countries. According to the report, three PCR test will be conducted on passengers arriving from high-risk countries, one before departing from the originating country, 2nd upon arrival and 3rd at the end of the quarantine period. People arriving from the low-risk country will be subjected to two PCR test - one before departure and second upon arrive. All PCR test will be at the passengers expense.

The proposal also includes reducing the quarantine period to 7 days.

Al-Qabas reported that the quarantine mechanism and its type would be discussed in today's meeting. If the plan is approved by the Ministry of Health, it will be applied by the General Administration of Civil Aviation to set health controls and requirements for its implementation.

Why 3rd pcr test required on 7th day if 2nd pcr test is negative and subsequently home quarantined. Each PCR costs 40kd.

Its a good decision to bring stranded expatriates back on direct Kuwait Airways flights and quarantine them in Kuwait. This decision should have been taken long time back when airlines and hotels were suffering without business. Now most of the stranded expatriates have already routed their travel through Dubai. Dubai had taken an early decision and they benefited from this crisis. Kuwait Govt. should think of changing policies and develop a tourist friendly country rather than depending only on oil and investment income.

What is rationale for 3 Covid checks ? If you find a second negative on arrival that is enough as after that he or she will be quarantine . Covid is now well established in community so logic of such numbers is questionable. Also big country like India has many pockets with no Covid to Covid . High risk and low risk bevomes arbitary .

This proposal should have come long time back. Anyhow, better late than never.
