Curfew from 5 pm to 5 am; Ban on entry of Non-Kuwaitis to continue; Delivery service allowed during curfew hours

The Kuwaiti government announced on Thursday imposing a nationwide night curfew for a month and extending the ban on entry of non-Kuwaitis into the country until further notice due to the alarming soaring in coronavirus infections.

The curfew will be imposed from 5:00 pm until 5:00 am local time, as of Sunday March 7 until April 8, said Foreign Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Dr. Sheikh Ahmad Nasser Al-Mohamad Al-Sabah in a statement following an irregular cabinet meeting held virtually today.cHe noted that the National Guard forces, in cooperation with police personnel, are tasked with enforcing the night curfew.

During the curfew time, people are allowed to go to mosques on foot, and pharmacies, shops buying medical supplies, cooperative societies and markets are permitted to practice their activities through only delivery service.

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry is assigned to take necessary measures to deliver basic suppliers during the night curfew and attend their auctions, he added.

During the non-curfew period, people are banned from entering restaurants and cafes, but can receive their orders through delivery service or from inside their cars.

Taxis are allowed to transfer two passengers only, and all setting places at public areas and public parks are closed.

The decision on banning non-Kuwaitis from entering the country has been extended until further notice, the minister noted.

The cabinet has urged all citizens and residents to abide by all precautionary measures and health requirements as well as halt all gatherings to curb the Covid-19 epidemic and maintain the safety of all.

It affirmed that the epidemic is dangerous and working on eradicating it is a national and societal responsibility that requires cooperation from all, the minster said.

The cabinet lauded sincere efforts by the Ministry of Health topped with Minister of Health Dr. Sheikh Bassel Humoud Al-Sabah and all senior officials and staff at the ministry's sectors.

During the cabinet's meeting led by His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, Dr. Bassel briefed the ministers on the latest developments of the virus.

He informed the cabinet about the measures taken by the ministry to follow up on the local epidemical indicators and to confront the spread of the infection.

He also briefed the cabinet on the efforts made by the ministry on implementing the vaccination campaign to reach the societal immunity.

In this regard, the cabinet listened to a presentation made by the Ministry's Undersecretary Dr. Moustafa Mohammad Redha, Assistant Undersecretary for Public Health Dr. Buthaina Al-Mudhf and Dr. Laila Saud Al-Enzi on the situation at public hospitals during February.
