Curfew begins in Kuwait with the aim of curbing spread of coronavirus

The country wide curfew imposed by the government due to non-compliance with Ministry of health's instructions to stay indoors with the aim of curbing spread of coronavirus, begins today at 5:00 pm.

All the shops and non-essential entities are closed across the country and people are staying indoor to comply with the government orders. The 11 hour curfew will be from 5:00 pm to next day morning 4:00 am effective today (Sunday).

Most of the supermarkets across the country announced their revised opening hours and closed their shops by 4:00 pm.

According to government communication, H.H the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah will address the people of the country at 07:00 pm tonight.

Meanwhile, security men arrested 9 people, including citizens and residents in separate areas of the country, on charges of violating the curfew in the first hour of its implementation, reports Al Qabas Arabic newspaper.

Cooperative stores in Kuwait are abiding by the partial curfew, the head of the Union Of Consumer Co-Operative Societies Meshaal Al-Seyar said on Sunday. However, goods will be delivered to houses during the curfew time by volunteers in each residential district, where consumers pay for the delivered goods by key net. Special permits will be issued for the volunteers.

Workers can obtain special permits from the ministry of interior and stay inside the stores during the curfew. The ministry will also provide work permits for workers who deliver food, however restaurants must remain shut during the curfew.

Earlier, the authorities warned that anyone caught breaching the curfew will be jailed for up to three years and fined KD 10,000 pursuant to Civil Defense Law, warned the interior minister.
