Cleaning workers protested for unpaid salary from July

A number of cleaning workers protested outside the Education Ministry building over not receiving their salaries since July.

The ministry’s services manager Fahd Al-Hayyab summoned the contracting company’s representative and warn him to resolve the problem.

The ministry’s assistant undersecretary and official spokesperson Faisal Maqseed stressed that cleaners’ salaries are the responsibility of the company hiring them and that the ministry will take legal action against the company.

According to local media report, the ministry had already paid all its financial commitments to the company providing the cleaners and that the company had been already contacted and urged to resolve the problem of cleaners’ overdue salaries. Report also added that the manpower authority has also been contacted to take legal action against the company.

Ministry of labor is responsible for this. Companies in Kuwait are Registered with Ministry. Companies giving salaries through Bank and Bank has to give report to Ministry of labor that this much companies are paid salaries to labor through Bank. Now above scenarios is that Company didn''t paid since July means almost 4 months pass and why Ministry of labor didn''t checking for companies whose salaries not coming through Bank say 1 month or 2 month whatever it is and take action against those companies. If take action on time above things will never happens.

This is the story of most of the contracting companies working for ministry and oil sector, these companies suck blood out of the poor contractor employees. Not giving as per contract salary, delay in salaries, problem in release if getting other job, not giving leave salary or indemnity or any other benefits, etc. are common scenarios.
