Benefits of Fasting in Ramadan

Benefits of Fasting in Ramadan

The holy month of Ramadan is a much awaited month for all Muslims around the world. So, when the crescent moon appears in the night sky, it brings a great deal of joy and celebration along with it.

During Ramadan, all Muslims avoid drinking and eating from sunrise to sunset. Most people would freak upon just hearing this. How could a human even live without water and food for almost an entire day! So, it may surprise you to know that millions of people across the world observe fasting during the entire month of Ramadan.

Now, none of you should avoid fasting in Ramadan because you think that it is only for religious purposes. Sure, it helps you get closer to God, but it also has a lot of positive effects on our body and mind. Today, I am going to share a few ways in which fasting can benefit all of us.

Detoxify

When we avoid drinking and eating for long hours, it gives our body the rare chance to detoxify the digestive system. Our body also draws energy from our fat deposits and thus flushes out any harmful toxins present there. This helps our body lose weight without any side effects at all. So if you are struggling to lose weight, just swap a couple of sweaty exercises for a week of fasting.

Clear our Mind

When we fast during Ramadan, we have to stay away from bad thoughts, improper words, alcohol and smoking in addition to food and water. This can help you get rid of any bad habits that you have been trying to ditch. It also allows you to have a clear mind and make better decisions.

Understand People

When we stay without food and water for long hours, it makes us feel the same hunger and anguish that hundreds of people in poverty are going through. It helps us connect with them and understand their situation a lot better. It also motivates us to help them in any way we can. We also realize how fortunate we are to be living in a proper house with everything that we could ever need. It will make us think twice before throwing out food or waste water.

Boost our Brain

Fasting has a positive effect on our mental wellbeing and spiritual focus. The mental focus achieved during Ramadan increases the level of a protein in our brain and produces more brain cells and helps to increase brain function.

Therefore, taking all these points into consideration, fasting has a very good effect on our body as well as our mind. It can help us in many day to day things. It helps detoxify our body, improve our brain function, motivate us to donate to charity and clear our mind. Fasting also makes our immunity stronger and our body healthier than ever. So, this year is a good time to try fasting. After all, there is no harm in trying.
