A lesson from the Story of a Bird

I woke up from my dream, one day due to my mom’s scream. aa ah . pleading a minute , rolling over the bedsheet, she draggged me from my bed… I just had to break my dream to wash my face and Went to my balcony to feel fresh breeze near my petty garden. To my surprise, I saw a bird staring at me - unmoved near a window opposite to my balcony sitting on the shoe top.

It was alight brown biscuit colored with black, broad, little long tail feathers and white base.

I stood still, wondering what does it do with the shoes… I saw the bird laying an egg. I rushed to my brother and we felt so joyful to see an eggover few twigs upon the shoe. The next day, we anxiously waited to see the bird, and felt so glad to see two eggs.

As soon the second egg waslaid, it sat over the eggs turning its back to us. The incubation period started - we thought and asked our mom to watch it when she gets time . It used to visit exactly around 8.00 – 8.30 am in the morning and 2.30 – 3.00 in the afternoon. For almost 3 days, there was no change. It came twice a day for incubating. When the clutch was completed the eggs hatched at some point might be in the night.

On Friday, we were shocked to see two tortoise like chicks with dark eyes after 4-5 days probably.Gradually, it started having growth of hairy structures over its body.

The mother bird used to feed the chicks twice for 15 days the body of the chick grew and its head was seen raised and beaks became visible, but was short and plumpy.

on the 16th day in the morning it came fed and left dnt return for another 3 days.

On the 16th day afternoon at around 2.50 pm father bird made its appearance for the first time.

The difference between father and mother could be seen .. mother had circular head, blue bordered plumage pinky white neck ,black colored tail feather ..father had small head upright structure coloration same. Both had red spots in the neck with different pattern. The size of the bird varied.

To the fourth floor, it came straight to its chicks keeping up the same timing.

Father fed the chicks in different manner from that of the mother. The mother bends down to feed but the father stands erect and the chick raises to get its feed..

The father bird kept visiting the chicks twice in the same time. He first caught the beak of the chick and raised it and lowered it repeating the same for a number of times to each chick. The chicks started becoming active and began to make moves in his absence. After the fathers visit the bird made its first move.. we felt glad to watch it..on Nov 15th 2013

On the second day, the father bird taught the chicks to pick the grains from down and eat. He might have dropped the food down and they picked up from the bottom. The lesson was learnt by the chick.

The father taught the lesson of defense on the last day and spent much little time. The time spent by the father bird kept decreasing from the day of his visit. The elder chick climbed over the father bird in the attempt of pleading him not to leave. It was an emotional scene to be visualized. But father flew away.

Later, both parents did not return. They were coming in the right time but stayed on the top of the building watching. They did not come into the vision of the chicks.

The chicks waited for their parents return. Later they made their move and started feeding over the egg shells lying there..

They have to fly.. They were seeing the height of the building might be they were scared. They waited long..

Now that - they got to know that their parents would not come, one chick gets prepared and flies to the neighbourhood.

The next day, the parent birds kept watching still from the top of the building. They are determined not to meet until the chicks fly.

At last both the chicks flew to another window .. We felt more enthusiastic to visualize the sight of the chicks flight . Immediately the mother flew to hug her chicks and an awesome sight . The chicks repeated their flight between the windows till they got well trained . Two days after their practice they flew… and we could not find them anymore

I felt more happy to see the chick flying . The family left now we see the empty window.. and the dirtied shoes but it left tremendous joy in us. We miss them.. alas everything needs to move ahead… I tried to find the bird’s name :- to my knowledge it seemed to be Isabelline Wheatear Pembroshire..

One thing was for sure, Though parents at times seem too rude but they are the first one to share our joy and sorrows.. Love your parents As God sent parents to shower incomparable love upon us on this Earth. I enjoyed my lesson with that of the chicks vision. wish you all would like it too. Nature provides lessons it is for us to learn… All the very best ..meet you again, till then keep smiling . Ramya teja…
