Aspire Indian International School Hosts Anti-Vaping Awareness Workshop

Aspire Indian International School in association with the Forum of Indian Doctors, Kuwait recently organized a powerful Anti-Vaping Awareness Workshop for students of Grades 6 to 12. The initiative aimed to educate young minds about the harmful effects of smoking and vaping, promote healthy lifestyle choices, and raise awareness about nicotine addiction.

The session commenced with a warm welcome by the School Counselor, Ms. Lia, in the presence of the Principal and Vice Principal. The highlight of the event was an insightful address by Dr. Antony Sebastian D’cruz, a specialist in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the Ministry of Health Hospital, Kuwait. Representing the Forum of Indian Doctors Kuwait, Dr. Antony brought both medical expertise and a strong commitment to community health.

His talk, titled “Tobacco or Nicotine Addiction: Stop Before You Start,” shed light on the dangers of both smoking and vaping. Dr. Antony explained how harmful chemicals like nicotine, formaldehyde, and heavy metals are introduced into the body through these habits, increasing the risk of lung, mouth, and throat cancer. He also warned about Popcorn Lung, an irreversible condition caused by inhaling certain flavoring agents in e-cigarettes.

In addition to the physical effects, Dr. Antony emphasized the dangers of second-hand smoke, especially its impact on children and the elderly. He also addressed the psychological traps that often lure teens into smoking or vaping—such as peer pressure and media influence—and stressed the importance of self-confidence and resisting negative influences.

The session also touched on environmental concerns, including pollution caused by cigarette butts and vape waste. Dr. Antony concluded by highlighting the numerous benefits of quitting tobacco and nicotine use, such as improved breathing, higher energy levels, and a reduced risk of illness.

At the end of the session, students took a pledge to stay away from harmful substances, adopt healthy habits, and contribute to a cleaner environment.

The workshop was a resounding success, leaving students better informed, inspired, and empowered to make positive life choices.
