
Kuwait City: Balakalamela 2025, organized by the Kerala Art Lovers Association (Kala Kuwait), emerged as a vibrant celebration of children's creativity and artistic expression, drawing widespread praise from both participants and spectators.
Held at United Indian School, Abbasiya, the event brought together nearly 1,000 students from 28 Indian schools across Kuwait. The competitions showcased 18 art forms across 12 uniquely themed stages, transforming the venue into a colorful and energetic cultural festival.
Participants competed in four categories—Kindergarten, Sub-Junior, Junior, and Senior—presenting performances in classical and contemporary disciplines such as Bharatanatyam, Mohiniyattam, Folk Dance, Group Dance, Fancy Dress, Mappilappattu, Light and Classical Music, Mono Act, Recitation (English & Malayalam), Storytelling, Elocution (English & Malayalam), and Essay Writing (English).
This year's edition introduced three new competition items—Mime, Oppana, and Group Song—which generated excitement and enthusiastic participation. The creatively named stages—Gulmohar (main stage), Manaveeyam, Prayanam, Dhyuti, Tharangam, Jwala, Mayookham, Athijeevanam, Keraleyam, Yavanika, Aksharam, and Mazhavillu—enhanced the festive atmosphere.
Starting at 7:00 AM on Friday and continuing into the evening, the event drew over 3,000 spectators. Alongside Malayali students, participants from other Indian communities in Kuwait added to the inclusive and diverse spirit of the event.
The event was inaugurated by Mr. Radhakrishnan, Principal of United Indian School, with Kala Kuwait President Mr. Mathew Joseph presiding. Also present were Arts Secretary Mr. Nishant George, Balavedhi General Secretary Ms. Anjalita Ramesh, and Reception Committee General Convener Mr. Bijoy. Kala Kuwait General Secretary Mr. T.V. Hikmath delivered the welcome address, and Mr. Bijoy offered the vote of thanks. Prize distributions were conducted by the Kala Kuwait office bearers.
Balakalamela 2025 reaffirmed Kala Kuwait’s mission to promote cultural values and provide a strong platform for young talent in the Indian community.
