The holy month of Ramadan is an immensely important time for Muslims all over the world. It can teach us all kinds of values, such as patience, endurance, and empathy, all of which are essential to maintain a balanced life. During this time, we turn all experiences into ones of learning. Ramadan can also teach us to understand the plight of those who battle this same hunger every single day, Ramadan or not.
Ramadan is seen as the month of charity. During the month of Ramadan, people give out charity to those in need. This kind of charity is known as Zakat and can be given to all kinds of people in need, regardless of their caste, creed, and background. However, Ramadan represents so much more. To me, Ramadan is the month of celebration, where people of diverse backgrounds are united under the one banner of being a Muslim. This unity and common understanding between different kinds of people can lead to the making of a better world. Feeling the sense of togetherness can indeed be a very positive change.
Another amazing thing about Ramadan is the joint iftar. The seemingly long wait for the Adan to call, and the rush to break our fast are all part of the fun. The joy of sharing food and happiness with people is like an immeasurable, yet unstoppable flow of joy. The sense of unity, and the feeling of warmth towards the people around you keeps the atmosphere light and happy. Every passing moment makes you feel another surge of positivity as you interact with the people around you. The familiarity which you see in the faces of people you have never met before tells you that wherever you turn, another part of your family is present, ready to welcome you with open arms.
In conclusion, we, as humans, must always remember that every person on this planet is, and always shall be equal. Some are less fortunate than others, but in the end, we are all one, united as one big family. We must always be compassionate towards those less fortunate than ourselves, not just during Ramadan, but during our entire life. This more empathetic side of us humans should always be on the show, to bring out the best in every person.
