The 18th National Tug of War Championship, organized by Thanima Kuwait for the Sanselia Ever Rolling Trophy, will take place on December 13th, Friday, at the Open Flood Light Stadium, Abbasia Indian Central School from 12:00 noon until 8:00 pm, announced Onathanima Convener Dilip DK. The venue, named Raju Zakaria Nagar in honor of the late Raju Zakaria, a former member of Thanima, will be inaugurated for the audience by the Chief Guest, Suresh Karthik, a former athlete and Kuwaiti businessman. The organizers revealed that South African Ambassador Dr. Manelisi P. Genge will serve as the distinguished guest at the general meeting.
Onathanima Convener Dileep D.K., Program Convener Babuji Batheri, Thanima Office Secretary Jinu K Abraham, Thanima General Convener Jojimon Thomas, Thanima Treasurer Rana Varghese, Onathanima Joint Convener Kumar Trithala, and Onathanima Finance Convenor Shaji Varghese were present at the press conference.
On that day, the Dr. Abdul Kalam Pearl of the School Award will be presented to students excelling in both academic and extracurricular subjects from 26 Indian schools in Kuwait.
This year is notable because, for the first time, tug-of-war competitors from various regions of the globe are taking part in a competition featuring over 20 teams that have been training for months are rotating. Athletes chosen from the tag-of-war Federation of India-approved events can represent as NRI Kuwait team in national contests taking place in India. Trophies that continuously roll and stand 5-6 feet tall are distinctive to Thanima Tug of War.
