Gulf Indian School advocates hands-on learning: a heuristic approach

Gulf Indian School was buzzing with excitement and a sense of community as the students and staff geared up for ‘Heuristic 2024’ – a Science Exhibition themed ‘Science and Technology for Society.’The school auditorium was decked up and a wide array of projects by the students were displayed neatly. Students from both junior and senior sections worked together for weeks as individuals and as a team to exhibit their imagination, delved into experiments, created innovative project and presented their findings to a curious audience.

Followed by a brief introductory speech by Unni Krishnan, Principal Dr. Prashant Vasudev in his address, insisted the students to dream big and encouraged them to take part in such exhibitions eagerly that can help them to unlock their full potential and to approach problems with scientific spirit and attitude. The guests of the event were Dr Sarita and Ms Keerthana Rajendran from City Clinic, Fahaheel. They were introduced felicitiously to the audience by Pujitha Balasubramanian and Abhiram Anup Mangat. Principal Dr. Prashant Vasudev honoured the guests by presenting them with mementos.

The presence of Dr. Sarita, a renowned gynecologist, felt so relevant as the theme of the exhibition included topics such as ‘Health and Wellness’ and ‘The Wonders of the Human Body.’ In her address, she shared her thoughts vivaciously with the students present there and elucidated that they should not hesitate to follow their passion and motivated to pursue their dreams relentlessly. She insisted on their wellness as they would one day turn problem solvers and policy makers.

Another interesting session of PPT show on ‘The importance of Nutrition and Balanced diet’ was conducted by the guest speaker Ms. Keerthana Rajendran, nutritionist from City Clinic, Fahaheel. The interactive session was found to be highly informative and interesting as well. The session insisted the importance of nutrients, proper intake of water & balanced diet with good sleep hours. Ms. Keerthana also spoke emphatically about healthy breakfast and how it plays a key role in a child’s academic performance.

The programme also featured interesting role plays and enthralling dance performances by the junior students. A classical dance performance by Arjun Rajesh was an added treat to the audience. The still and working models, colourful chart displays, various demonstration of experiments and the clinic set up by the students were highly appreciated by the spectators.

Brightly Mary Litton, the cultural secretary of GIS proposed the vote of thanks, mentioning the extensive arrangements made by the entire team of Science Department under the able guidance of Mrs Kala Rajan, Vice Principal and Mrs Sofi Varghese, Coordinator, Principal KG & Primary. She also thanked the core leadership members and all the other staff of GIS for their fullest cooperation in bringing the event to fruition.
