
Diwali is celebrated on no-moon night in the hindu-month of Ashwin,usually celebrated in the month of october or november.It signifies the victory of light over darkness. It is a time for sweets , new clothing , decorative lamps (diyas) and fireworks. However, it is important to keep the safety measures in mind before celebrating this festival of light.
Following are tips for a safe diwali for you and your loved ones:
1.Buying and storing firecrackers safely:
Always buy firecrackers from a licensed merchants and keep them in a locked box away from children and potential fire sources. Never carry fireworks in pockets or bags.
2. Placement of diyas and candles:
When decorating your home with diyas and candles make sure you keep them away from curtains,clothes and flammable materials . Place them on safe surface and away from electric wiring.
3.Keep a first -aid kit handy :
Have a first - aid kit for immediate attention incase of burns and sudden injuries.
4.Keep fire extinguisher ready :
Have a fire extinguisher accessible to everyone incase of fire. If unavailable keep a bucket of water or sand with you .
5.Light fire - crackers outside your house :
Always light fire crackers outdoors to avoid fire or potential injuries.
6. Pet’s safety:
Loud noises frighten animals . Keep your pets indoor and create a safe space for them.
7.Discard used firecrackers safely:
Put used firecrackers in water for 15-20 mins before disposing them in a dustbin.
8.Safety gears:
Ensure your family wears masks to avoid inhaling smoke .
9.Emergency numbers :
Keep emergency contact numbers, including those of hospital and fire departments.
10. Be kind to others :
Avoid bursting crackers around hospitals . Make sure your celebration dosen’t cause any one discomfort.
