Women in Modern India: Breaking Barriers

From home to nation, a women’s impact is undefinable. A woman is defined by her kindness, confidence, courage and many more. Once women were trapped in a domestic sphere, where women were referred to as housekeepers and it was taught and passed down to many other generations that women are born to take care of the house and her family and sacrifice all her dreams for their husband and children. India’s journey towards independence was a tale of collective courage where women contributed along with men. From Rani Lakshmibai to freedom fighters like Sarojini Naidu Modern India is a testament to a woman with unwavering spirit, strength, support, and courage. They have broken barriers and shattered stereotypes like our proud 15th president Draupadi Murmu she has become the first tribal women and the second woman to hold the highest office. “When we sit in the cockpit and close the canopy any feelings of achievement empowerment and so on are left on the ground we don’t carry them in the air”- Avani Chaturvedi IAF flying officer she was among the first ever batch of three women pilots. Sunita Chaudhary an auto driver said, “a staffer had thrown papers on her face saying no women had ever been issued batch and driving license in the past” people are still not used to the idea of a women being an auto driver. But now this stories are far off the women in modern India are empowered respected and even are depicted as a woman is a god, investing in women is like investing in our nation India and its future like the famous quote said by Jawaharlal Nehru about women “The status of women depicts the social economic and mental condition in a nation”. The future we dream 2047 of an independent and well developed India will be incomplete without the complete and equal contribution of a women. It was not that easy also to break all the barriers and inequality they faced in the past like violence against them and women were also undereducated. As we celebrate India let us also celebrate women in India to build a nation we dream let us support and honor every women’s power and capabilities. From Indra Gandhi’s political acumen to Mother Teresa’s unwavering compassion, Indian women across diverse fields have craved their own legacies, shattering stereotypes, and inspiring younger generations to come. Women are at the forefront of social changes, activists like Medha Patkar and Vadana Shiva have addressed environmental causes and women’s rights. Don’t forget there are also many champions on the field of sports like P.V Sindhu and Manu Bhakar- the first Indian women to win an Olympic medal in shooting. Indian women are defying limits and touching skies or should I say going beyond the galaxies, educating a girl can enlighten a whole nation. Few years back a school in Kerala introduced gender neutral uniforms and right after that a lot of schools implemented the same, plenty of women’s rights organization supported this initiative saying it will help bridge the gender gap. But what exactly is the gender neutral uniform? it is nothing but that the girl children were given pant shirts why is it not the other way? why weren’t boys given skirts sounds funny right then why does it sound empowering when it comes to girls wearing pants in the name of closing the gender gap people expect women to forget their femininity. The message clearly goes like you should act like a man to achieve success this is like even if you are a woman you got to act like a man and this is not how you bridge the gender gap; femininity should also be celebrated. Making girls dress like a man is not gender neutrality it’s called moving towards masculinity. Let women lead India will succeed. “You can tell the state of a nation by looking at the status of its women”. Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat

Jai Hind!
