Durrar Toastmasters Club, Riggae, Kuwait held a Grand Finale for their recently concluded Youth Leadership Program (YLP) on 27th October 2023 at Symphony auditorium in Riggae. The Finale was attended by parents along with the YLP attendees from different parts of Kuwait, who showcased their speaking, organizing and leadership skills learnt during the YLP. The Program that began on 29th September 2023 was attended by 32 students aged 9 to 17, studying at various schools in Kuwait. The Program was conducted in 3 groups under the guidance of 3 coordinators from Durrar Toastmasters Club.
During the Program held on consecutive Fridays, 8 workshops were conducted by experienced Toastmasters on various subjects relating to development of communication and leadership skills. The students learnt about the power of vocal variety, gestures and listening in communication, organizing a well-structured speech and the tips and tricks of impromptu speaking. It was an experiential learning for the attendees as they also developed their leadership skills by actually choosing the executive committees from amongst themselves and seeing them perform in action.
The envisioned purpose of the Youth Leadership Program chalked out by Toastmasters International is to help the youth develop critical thinking abilities, aid in goal setting and time management, expand network and to gain confidence, besides overcoming the fear of public speaking.
One of the parents expressed his happiness and gratitude, ”My son has gained vastly over the last few weeks under the guidance of Toastmaster mentors. He is a shy child and within this short time, my wife and I have observed a positive change in him. I will surely enroll him into the Durrar Gavel Club.” On Finale day itself, several YLP attendees registered to be members of the gavel club. Durrar Gavel club, that was sponsored by Durrar Toastmasters club nearly 8 years back, currently has 17 active members from different parts of Kuwait, and meets every second and fourth Saturday in Riggae.
Several parents, impressed by the positive changes in their wards, also displayed keen interest in joining the parent/ sponsor club Durrar Toastmasters Club, that was chartered in Jan 2015.
