The Woman Who Combated The Glass Ceiling Effect

“Excellence ka peecha karo, success apne aap peeche bhagegi.”

Lakshmi Iyer is a wonderful exemplification who has thrown light upon the above line from the movie -‘3 Idiots’. This woman in the field of finance and investment has proved that there is nothing stopping women from breaking the glass ceiling in their workplace. All that counts is dedication and the will to perform the best.

A graduate in Commerce from Mumbai University and Diploma in Business Management from NMIMS, Mumbai, Debt Market Queen Lakshmi Iyer has a clear 23 years of experience in the securities market. She is currently the Chief Executive of Kotak’s Investment advisory business. Her depth and width of knowledge has created an impetus for the growth of the business. She says that this world gives trick-or-treat moments to everyone and there is a higher probability of getting tricked than being treated. The one who shoots a magic bullet will surely be able to host the flag of success

Iyer’s love for numbers opened the gate to finance. She was an expert in coding and markets and was commissioned to assist Kotak Mahindra Capital with a software platform. She was the thirty fourth employee of Kotak Mahindra when she joined in 1999. Later she got a golden opportunity to manage the debt funds at a time when bond markets were not developed. She realized great potential in the space and adopted a DIY learning approach. Working in a male dominant space was not a piece of cake as she had struggles coping up with minority complexes. After her high proficient supervision in over one lakh crore of assets at Kotak AMC. She took over the charge of the CEO of Kotak’s investment advisory business. Recently she raised her bar of success when she was recognized as one of the top 25 influential women in asset management in Asia. When women are told to prioritize family over career, Iyer has found an alt+tab key between work, family and life.

Surprisingly we can find very sparse information about Iyer on the internet. In today’s world, we are able to recall who posted what on Instagram. The present generation is least exposed to the actuality of the world. We find a multitude of details about any youtuber or any person active in social media, but why are we less aware about people like Lakshmi Iyer who have pursued excellence and become an idol for people around the world? Let our generation get inspired by people like her so that we can make the world a better place to live.
