Mrs. Malini Sridhar held her Bharatanatyam Arangetram in Kuwait

Mrs. Malini Sridhar, a resident of Kuwait, performed her Bharatanatyam Arangetram solo dance performance in Kuwait. Arangetram simply means ‘ascending the stage’. This was her first 1.5-hour solo dance performance, in which she performed eight different types of Bharatanatyam dance recitals in a defined order. Mr. Mazen Al Essa, Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs in the office of His Highness the Crown Prince of Kuwait, and Mr. Nanu Gurjar, a celebrated Hindustani and Bollywood singer, music director, and judge, Zee TV Saregama, presided over the event. This unique event was organised in the Innova School Auditorium in Kuwait with an august audience of over 350 plus guests. Another highlight of this event was a small hindustani classical song rendition by Mr. Nanu Gurjar.

Mrs. Malini Sridhar, a sales professional working with British Airways, Kuwait, hails from Chennai, is married, and is the mother of two boys. Under the tutelage of Guru. Smt. Arundhati Singha John, Artistic Director of Nritta Dhyana—The School for Indian Classical Dance, Salmiya, Kuwait, she learned this distinctive form of dance for over seven years. She has performed on various stages in Kuwait during the past few years, but this dance event was one of a kind. Her passion for dance and dedication to this art propelled her to complete this dance event.

In the words of Guru. Smt. Arundhati Singha John, "Bharatanatyam is one of the oldest classical art forms that has existed and evolved over centuries. It has answers to many questions raised about our civilization and our knowledge of cosmic science. Learning this dance form is a way of life, it keeps our body and mind healthy and fresh. Bharatanatyam Arangetram is a big achievement and a milestone in the life of my student Malini Sridhar as she embarks on a long journey with this powerful dance tradition."

Bharatanatyam is one of the oldest existing forms of dance (since 4000 BC) and originated in the state of Tamil Nadu. It is fundamentally composed of three distinct elements: Nritta, the rhythmic movements, Nritya, the facial expressions; and Naatya, the dramatic aspect. It is a very intricate and intense form of Indian classical dance, it holds artistic discipline of the highest order, expressed through very stylistic and graceful gestures of the body. It is one of the eight popular classical dances of India.

Fly Dubai management, Kuwait sponsored the air tickets for the celebrity guest Mr. Nanu Gurjar and Al Mulla Exchange, Kuwait sponsored the stage backdrop on the day of the event.
