31st Anniversary of former Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi observed

A cross section of the Indian community paid homage to former Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi who was assassinated by a female Srilankan suicide bomber on his 31st death anniversary on May 21st during an online event organised by the Rajiv Gandhi Awards Committee, Kuwait.

Speaking on the occasion N.R. Sampath, retired Chief General Manager of State Bank of India said that in a short span of time Rajiv Gandhi left an indelible mark with several transformative initiatives and added that “those who live in the hearts of others never pass away”.

Kuwait businessman Munnar Khan spoke of Rajiv Gandhi’s efforts in ushering in the technological revolution in India.

In his address, Markos Williams, Rajiv Gandhi Awards Committee Chairman quoted Rajiv Gandhi who said, “Democracy was the greatest gift of our freedom struggle to the people of India. Independence made the nation free. Democracy made our people free.”

In conclusion, Markos Williams administered the Anti Terrorism Pledge to all participants which calls “for eschewing violence and resolution of all differences through dialogue and constitutional means while working for the emotional oneness and harmony of all the people of India irrespective of caste, creed, religion or language.”
