IDAK-KDD Cricket Tournament 2021 for men and IDAK-KDD Sixers Trophy 2021 for women were conducted in the BLK Cricket ground at Sulaibiya last Friday.

Men’s Cricket.

Northern Ninjas was captained by Dr. Fawaz and Southern Spartans by

Dr. Renjith. Southern Spartans had won the toss and elected to bat.

Mr. Dharmendran opened the bowling along with Dr. Hussain and kept it tight and kept on picking up wickets at regular intervals. Dr. Jithendra Ariga slowly and steadily kept one side secure and started building the innings, while on the other side wickets kept on falling at regular intervals. Dr.Ismail, Dr.Aslam, Dr.Ashwin provided support to the opening bowlers by picking up more wickets and curtailing the run flow. With the tight bowling and fielding, Northern Ninjas restriced the Southern Spartans to 94/9 at the end of 15 overs.

Chasing a target of 94, Northern Ninjas lost Dr.Aslam in the beginning itself. But Dr.Ashwin and Dr.Hussain steadied the innings with a brilliant partnership with some great hits to the boundaries. It looked as if the match was going in favour of Northern Ninjas. But following the dismissal of Dr.Ashwin Sudhesh by Mr.Sham, there was a total batting collapse with Dr.Rahul Puthalath running through the middle order along with Dr.Akhin and Dr.Jagan. The final wicket was an excellent catch by Dr.Johnson and Northern Ninjas were all out with the scores tied at 94.

Dr.Jithendra Ariga bagged the best batsman and Mr.Sham was judged as the best bowler.

Dr.Ashwin Sudhesh won two awards for his brilliant innings bagging the IDAK Man of the Match and Super sixes award. The catch by Dr. Fawwaz earned him the IDAK best catch of the day.

Northern Ninjas and Southern Spartans were declared Joint winners for the IDAK-KDD Cricket Tournament 2021.

WOMEN’S CRICKET

In the Women’s event for IDAK-KDD Sixers trophy for women,

Southern Spartans were captained by Dr.Prashanthy and Northern Ninjas by Dr.Ranjitha. Southern Spartans won the toss and elected to bat. Dr.Parvathy opened the bowling for the Northern Nijas and due to her accuracy in bowling, Southern Spartans were finding it difficult to open the scoreboard. However Dr.Prashanthy played a captains innings to make sure their innings was steadied. Two towering hits to the fence by Dr.Bankima made sure the team was in a safe position. But the highlight of their innings was played by Dr.Devi who played a superb knock including a towering 6 to the fence ensuring them a respectable total of 30.

Northern Ninjas began the chase on a slow place and found it difficult to clear the boundaries. Credits go to the dynamic bowling combination of Dr.Sashikala, Dr.Prashanthy and Dr.Nikhila. In the end, Southern Spartans won by 12 runs. Dr.Parvathy was adjudged as the best bowler and Dr.Ranjitha was selected as the best fielder. The Woman of the Match and the best Batswoman trophy was bagged by Dr.DeviPriya.

Mr. Krishnan Ventaraman KDD Senior Manager was the guest of honor and gave the prizes to both the winners and runners up team, trophies to best performers in each category. Dr. Kannam Shyam and Mr. Murali were the Official Umpires for the tournament. KDD was the exclusive title sponsor for the event. IDAK members and families came in good numbers and cheered their respective teams.

The Sporting event was well organized, meticulously planned and flawlessly executed by the IDAK Sports Committee headed by Dr.Ashwin Sudhesh, under the guidance of Dr.Rahul Puthalath and IDAK Executive Council. KDD was the exclusive title sponsor of the event. Event Management Committee led by Dr. Vinod Varghese Sam provided all the help needed for the smooth conduct of the events.
