International Yoga Day Celebration at IES

With this year’s theme, “Yoga for Wellness”, Bhavans Indian Education School, Kuwait, the flagbearer of Indian ethos in Kuwait, celebrated the International Yoga Day on June 18, 2021, on its virtual platform under the aegis of the Department of Physical Education. The Bhavanites rolled out their yoga mats to bend and twist their bodies in complex postures from the safety of their homes to practice yoga, a one-size-fits-all solution to fight stress and to alleviate the ailments including depression and anxiety amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The program started with the recitation of a few slokas by Ashwin Jaishankar of 11A, followed by a short video presentation on the significance of celebrating Yoga Day every year. The event exclusively organized for the teachers and the students of IES was emceed by Irene Sara, Minister of Cultural Affairs, Student Parliament. Sreehari Badrinarayanan, Vice President, Student Parliament, welcomed the virtual gathering comprising the Chief Guests, Mr. Radhakrishnan Govinda, and Mrs. Nita Radhakrishnan, the faculty members of the AOL, (Art of Living Foundation), Kuwait, Mr. N.K. Ramachandran Menon, Chairman, Bhavans Middle East, Mr. T. Premkumar, Principal, IES, Ms. Anselma Tessy Judeson, Vice Principal, Senior Wing, Ms. Meenakshi Nayyar, Vice Principal, Middle Wing, and Ms. Lalitha Premkumar, Vice Principal, Primary and Kindergarten Wings, to the event.

Mr. Radhakrishnan Govinda, while conducting the workshop on ‘Health and Happiness’, expounded the importance of practicing yoga to enjoy life to the fullest. He reiterated the importance of yoga in one’s day-to-day life as it leads to the blissful harmony of body and mind. He stated that despite the existing uncertainty due to COVID-19, one had to be resilient, optimistic, and courageous. The Chief Guests, along with a group of students, demonstrated a few asanas of yoga. After the workshop, they were presented e-certificates of appreciation by principal, Mr. T. Premkumar. The event was coordinated by Dr. Murugaiyan Subbarayalu K. Samy, the Head of the Physical Education Department of IES.

The vote of thanks was proposed by Lakshmi Sahiti, Vice President, Student Parliament. The celebration drew to a close with the singing of Indian national anthem followed by a photo session with the Chief Guests.
