Embassy call people to be aware of fraudulent calls

The Indian Embassy in Kuwait once again informed the community members to be aware of scammers calling and pretending as Embassy officials to extract money.

"It has been brought to the attention of Embassy of India in Kuwait that some unscrupulous individuals are calling Indian nationals, posing as Embassy officials, with a view to extracting money. These individuals may, at times, provide certain personal particulars to make their claims sound convincing.

All Indian nationals in Kuwait are hereby informed that the Embassy never requests for any such payments/money transfers, nor for your bank details, nor for money transfers through telephone calls or through unauthorized means, nor will ask for your banking credentials/credit card details etc", Embassy informed in a statement.

Established processes and procedures are in place in respect of various services provided by the Embassy, which are clearly laid out on the Embassy's official website (http://www.indembkwt.gov.in/), the statement added.

All concerned are therefore requested to exercise utmost caution and not to fall prey to any fraudulent attempts. They may report such calls, if any, to Embassy of India at [email protected].

On Jan 21st 2021 I received a call from +965-#######2 (Emergency number provided by Indian Embassy, Kuwait) and they told me that it''s an emergency call and it''s a live call from the Indian Embassy in New Delhi, Indian Embassy in Kuwait, and UNO members are connected. They told us all my information like my civil Id number, passport number, and my past international travel details, so I believed that its a true call from Indian Embassy in Kuwait.

They told that i had entered wrong date of birth detailed in the Immigration form during my travel to kuwait in 2018, so the Indian Government have filed a case against me and to resolve this issue they have gave two options, either i have to go to Kuwait High commission - New Delhi and have to submit my documents along with security deposit worth KWD 790 or I have to pay KWD 790 in Kuwait and have to visit Indian Embassy in Kuwait with the receipt.

The caller has introduced his name as Mr. K.P.Yadav / Second sec assistant, Immigration Officer. Emp Id. HCI 2120, and UNO member Kevin Dave. Meanwhile in that call I googled the information that was given by him and all the information was very close. I was on call for nearly 3hrs, later I realised that something was wrong so I disconnected the call. . The Caller was so professional and trained guy, later I googled and found that the same incident had happened earlier to some other persons and Indian Embassy, Kuwait have released a press release on 14th Jan 2021. So I have escaped from this scam call in a near miss.

After the call, I recalled my emails and earlier I had submitted my documents to the volunteers and gave some of my information over telephone to the Volunteers ([email protected]) which was appointed by Indian Embassy for Indian Engineers. I am having doubt on them because in October month only they have collected my information. I have sent email to [email protected] and I am going to Indian Embassy to report on it.
