Tips and Suggestions on decoration of houses during Diwali

- Use beautiful torans of beads and pearls to decorate the entrance for Diwali. Vertical strings with checkered designs can also be used here.

- If you have a spare wood plank at home, glue fabric on it and border it with lace. Add 3 – 4 motifs diagonally and place 3 – 4 diyas on both the sides. This acts as a welcoming sign for guests. You can use pearls as well to decorate. This is a cost-effective and eco-friendly option.

- Add water to a copper vessel in such a way that the vessel is half full. Then put some shimmer to it. You can also add yellow flowers, floating diyas and either place it at the corner of your house or on a small stool.

- For women who are very busy during this festive time with other responsibilities, a simple glass bowl with flowers will do the trick. You can also place this bowl with flowers and a diya in the center of the kitchen to get the Diwali feel. For a feel good factor, you can add perfume to it.

- The green bangles used by Indian women can be used to hang on the doors with a sacred thread used in pooja in the center. Individual threads can have separate bangles. You can use sets of 4 or 5 bangles and hang it on your balcony. It can act as a wind chime as well.

- Instead of a large paper lantern, go for smaller ones, suspended in a bunch for a refreshing twist. You can either purchase them or make them at home for a customized look and feel.

- To add fragrance to your home, you can have scented candles and cover them with glasses of unique shape. This recreates the festive zeal to a great extent. You can use this when you have a pooja with friends, family or guests.

- Use candles of different sizes and shapes to light up dull corners and empty spaces. Also, a display of assorted candles can be used in different heights and widths in cream and gold. You can also work with lights such as floor or table lamps or even pendant lights to create a cozy and soothing ambience.

- Pick colourful upholstery if your sofa is the main center piece in the living room to add focus to this piece of furniture.

- Place candles and then cover them with coloured glass on a shelf or behind the furniture. Make sure the dispersed light falls on the wall. The effect would be similar to a shimmering rainbow.
