10 KD fine if sponsor delay salary of domestic workers

Public Authority for Manpower (PAM) has warned sponsors on delaying the salaries of their domestic workers. A fine of KD 10 will be imposed on those who violate the decision, local Arabic newspaper Al-Qabas reported.

PAM launched a campaign on various media outlets, including the social media with the aim of raising awareness among domestic workers about their rights. PAM also clarified that the sponsor has no right to deduct any amount from their salaries.

PAM also called on the sponsors to abide by relevant laws and treat their workers with compassion devoid of humiliation; stressing domestic workers are entitled to a weekly day off in addition to annual vacation. It reiterated that the law forbids sponsors from seizing their workers’ ID cards or passports unless the laborer approves of it.

KD 10 fine and one month in Prison who is responsible for Salary releasing - this should be added as a punishment. After coming out from Prison he will learn lesson and next time he will not do the same.

As I understand from the below comments section, it is obvious that people are not clear with the news reported by IIK. It is 10KD fine/penalty for the sponsor for delay in salary payment to his employees and NOT a penalty for the victim/employee (It doesn''t make sense to whip a dying horse). As I said before, it is too small a penalty for the rich sponsor.

@Ramdas

I guess, you have every right to approach PAM and file a representation, as your employer defaulted on his salary commitment to you. If the law prevails, you are entitled for all your backlog payment. All the Best to you.

Good move by PAM. However 10KD fine is for every day of delay or for a month is not clear. To make it sensible, it should be for every day in delay of payment.

I was appointed for KD 180 and now it is being droped down to KD 150 after 2 months as i was not well. Sponsor took me to the private hospital (did MRI,CNG test etc) + there was a damage to the tyre of the car which i drive and that too charged from me KD 110

Now i get 120 in hand and it is almost a year now.

I am writhing because the articles says
"PAM also clarified that the sponsor has no right to deduct any amount from their salaries."

Want to ask if this is applicable to my case?
Yes, than what amount i am liable to get in hand KD 10 or the left over amount from the salary mentioned on the contract which was accepted on mail?
