Ramadan is the month in which Allah (S.W.T) revealed the Holy Quran. It is the 9th month of the Islamic calendar. It is the month in which fasting is compulsory for Muslims. Muslims fast during this month as a way of commemorating the revelation of the Holy Quran. It is a month in which Muslims benefit by reading the Holy Quran, saying zikr in the name of Allah (S.W.T) and the Prophet Muhammed (P.B.U.H). Ramadan helps Muslims to remember about the people who are less fortunate, which teaches them to sacrifice.

Every year, Ramadan has either 29 or 30 days. From the first day onwards, there is a special prayer after Isha (Night) prayer called Taraweeh. It involves reading long portions of the Quran as well as performing many rakahs. It can be performed alone at home or at the mosque. This prayer has great benefits for Muslims. On the 29th day of Ramadan during evening, if a particular country sees the moon, the next day will be celebrated as Eid Al- Fitr. If they do not see the moon on that day, then the day after the 30th day of Ramadan will be celebrated as Eid Al-Fitr. During the last 10 days of Ramadan, there is a night in one of those days, known as Laylat Al- Qadar or The Night of Power. It is a night in which all the sins of a person will be forgiven. It is said that more than thousand months is the benefit of Laylat Al- Qadar.

Special cuisines and sweets are one of the aspects of Ramadan. They are one of the must-try foods. Some of the famous cuisines which can be prepared during Ramadan are Kebab, Hummus, Shawarma, Falafel etc. Arabic sweets prepared during Ramadan are one of the mouth-watering sweets, some of them are Kunafa, Halwa, Baklava, Stuffed dates, Basbousa etc. Dates is first eaten when Iftar or breaking fast. Since Muslims have to fast continuously for 29-30 days, they have to keep themselves hydrated and have to meet the amount of energy and nutrients required for the body. The reward from fasting during Ramadan is immense. Hence, Muslims must make great benefits during the Holy month of Ramadan.
