For Muslims, Ramadan is a very special time of the year, for Muslims ninth month is drastically different to any other part of the Muslim calendar. Ramadan is one of the five pillars of Islam . The most important aspect of Ramadan , when viewed from outside , is the fasting undertaken by them . During Ramadan, all Muslims over the age of about 12, with some exceptions are excepted to fast between dawn and sunset. They eat one meal before the day break and continue their fast till sunset. Thus, ritual of fasting has great importance in their culture as it is believed that fasting teaches them how to be patient, modest and spiritual.

People consider Ramadan to be a Holi month because it was in this month the Allah passed down the first verses of the Quran to Prophet Muhammad. So during Ramadan , people pray for Allah’s blessings and spend the day in prayers . The true essence of Ramadan lies in the fact that people pray for forgiveness of all their past sins by practicing self-control through fasting and purifying themselves by doing good deeds.

It is recommended that before sunrise, Muslims eat a pre fast meal known as Suhr. This meal often resembles breakfast, but in some cultures, it may include more dinner like foods. After sun dawn Muslims break there fast with iftar, a meal which usually starts with dates and water or milk followed by dinner. The traditional food of Ramadan lentil, vegetable, vermicelli soups are usually served. One of the Ramadan foods which I like most is Kunafa it is a traditional type of Arabic sweet with Arabic delegacy. Its base is sweet sugar-based syrup and rich topping. It is a middle eastern cheese pastry soaked sweet. Sugar based syrup typical of the regions belonging to the farmer Ottoman Empire. Another Ramadan cuisine I like most is Haleem it tops the list of the best Ramadan food in India. It is a scrumptious mutton preparation slow cooked along with lentils broken wheat and spices. This dish is usually prepared for iftar due to high nutritional value revitalizing nature and comforting porridge like texture.
