Laylatul Qadr

Monday, March 28, 2022

The Messenger of Allaah ‘salalAllaahu alayhi wa salam said,

“Whoever stands the night of decree (Laylatul Qadr) with faith (Emaan) and seeking the reward will have past sins forgiven, and whoever fasts Ramadan with faith and seeking the reward will have past sins forgiven.” (Musnad Ahmed).

Here the term Qadr is related to Nobility. It is given that name because of the fact that it is the night when one who stands during it receives the vast Mercy of Allaah subhanahu wa ta’ala, His great virtue, and His great blessing.

From the virtue and the blessing of that night, it is that Allaah subhanahu wa ta’ala has revealed the Quran in it. Allaah mentions in the Quran:

إِنَّآ أَنزَلْنَٰهُ فِى لَيْلَةٍ مُّبَٰرَكَةٍ إِنَّا كُنَّا مُنذِرِينَ

We sent it (this Quran) down on a blessed night [(i.e. night of Qadr, Surah No: 97) in the month of Ramadan,, the 9th month of the Islamic calendar]. Verily, We are ever warning [mankind that Our Torment will reach those who disbelieve in Our Oneness of Lordship and in Our Oneness of worship]. (Surah Ad-Dukhan 44:3)

The night referred to in the above ayah is Mubaraka (Blessed Night).

Similarly, from the blessings that occur that night is the one who fasts the day and stands the night out of emaan (faith) and seeking the reward of Allaah subhanahu wa ta’ala then his past sins will be forgiven.

Merits and Virtues of Laylatul Qadr:

1.It is the greatest Night of the of the year like the Day of ‘Arafah is the greatest Day of the year. It is the night about which Allaah revealed the full Surah, Surah-Qadr (97: 1-5) and the 3rd to 6th verses of Surat-Ad Dukhan (44: 3-6).

2.It is better than 1000 months.

3.It is the night when Quran was revealed. And for that reason, the Messenger of Allaah salalaahu alayhi wa salam had encouraged that a person should seek it out in the last 10 nights. And that is by making the striving to find it and to striving in finding that night. And that is one of the reasons why it has been kept hidden so that the Muslims will seek it out and strive after it. This is from the Wisdom of Allaah subhanahu wa ta'ala as to why it is kept hidden.

4.It is the night when the message (the Final and seal of all Messages) sent to Muhammad ‘salalAllaahu alayhi wa salam started.

5.It is the night when the light, that would illuminate mankind to the end of life, started.

6.It is the night when every matter of ordainment is decreed.

Signs of Laylatul-Qadr:

1.The sun will rise on that day having no rays.

2.It is a pleasant and cool night even if it is a summer month.

3.The night is tranquil.
