Ramadan is the 9th month of the Islamic calendar.it is a month in which all Muslim’s fast for the sake of God Allah {swt}. They fast from dawn till sunset. They have two meals one at the start of the fast known as Sehri or Suhoor and the second one to break their fast which is known as iftar. They break their fast by eating dates.

During the fast they are not allowed to eat or drink anything. They also cannot get in an argument. Fasting is meant to teach patience, modesty and spirituality.

Muslims do a lot of charity. Mostly people also give the obligatory charity which is known as Zakat. They offer more prayer than usual and ask forgiveness for their past sins. They read their holy book which is known as the Quran. Comparing to the solar calendar the dates of Ramadan moves about 10 days backwards every year.

Ramadan is also the month in which the first verses of the Quran were revealed to Prophet Muhammad(PBUH). During the last 10 nights of Ramadan there is one night which is better than a thousand months which is the reason why all the Muslims stay awake all night and pray and do extra acts of worship. This night is known as laylatul Qadr. On the first of next lunar month called shawwal, Ramadan ends with Eid-ul-fitr. When everyone's happy and they celebrate it with family gatherings and fun.
