Ramadan a Blessed Month

Monday, April 5, 2021

Ramadan!!! It is such a beautiful and blessed month for Muslims all over the world. It is the 9th month in the Islamic calendar and is also known as the month of fasting, prayer, reflection and community. It is celebrated as the month during which Muhammad(PBUH) received the initial revelations of Quran, the holy book for Muslims. Fasting is one of the five fundamental principles of Islam. Ramadan begins at the last night of the month of Shabaan. Fasting from sunrise to sunset is fard (obligatory) for all adult Muslims. The predawn meal is referred to as Suhoor and the nightly feast that breaks the fast is called as Iftar. The spiritual rewards (Thawab) of fasting are believed to be multiplied during this blessed month.

Ramadan always falls on the 9th month of the 12th month of Islamic calendar. Ramadan is a time to practice self-restraint and self-reflection. Fasting is seen as a way to cleanse the soul and have empathy for those in the world who are hungry and less fortunate. There are special prayers during this month called Tarawih in which the whole Quran is recited. In this month people also give charity also known as Sadqa e fitr. It is also said if you fast and ask God something he will give you your wish faster. It is said that during Ramadan God opens the door of Heaven and closes the door of Hell.

In this sacred month there is a night worth more than 1000 months and it’s the Laylatul Qadr. It comes in the last ten days of Ramadan. This night is better than the thousand months in merit and excellence. Whoever prayed during this night out of sincere faith, his previous sins will be forgiven. Also the person who performs the Tarawih prayers is entitled for the same reward. It is also known as a Night of Power, Night of Decree and Night of Destiny. Muslims regard this as the most important event in history. On this night the Angels descend on the Earth. During these 10 days we can also go to Itikaaf which means to take a break from the world and spend your time in the way of Allah. We can recite Quran, pray, get our sins cleansed, do dhikr and make dua. These 10 days can occur on odd days which are the 21st , 23rd, 25th, 27thor 29th of Ramadan. The night of “Laylatul Qadr” can be observed on any of the odd days mentioned above.

After the end of this merciful month a festival known as “Eid ul Fitr” also known as the “Festival of breaking Fast”. It is a religious holiday celebrated by Muslims all over the world that marks the end of the month of Ramadan. People wear new dresses, go to mosque for establishing Eid prayer, they also give poor people money, wish each other, make delicious food and also small kids are given money by their elders known as Eidi. All Muslims waits eagerly for this festival.
At the end……….

WISH YOU ALL A HAPPY RAMADAN
