US Visa Appointment: Family with small child
posted by MP on Saturday, June 22, 2024
Hi all,
I have an interview appointment at the US embassy in the coming week for B1/B2 visas for my family, including my 3-year old son. The appointment confirmation document says that minors under 14 years of age are "not required to appear for a nonimmigrant visa interview". But I have seen posts, here and elsewhere, indicating that it''s better to take children along for the interview.
Wanted to get opinion of people who have gone through the process, or are otherwise knowledgeable about this matter:
- Are small children not allowed inside the embassy for interview appointments?
- If children are allowed, but since they are "not required" to attend, is it better to take them along for family appointments?
Thanks in advance!

Based on my personal experience in 2019, no need of kids presence for interview. So you can confirm with embassy reception and make sure before the interview.

As per rule kids are not required to attend the interview. Also it is advisable not to take them with coz of strict and long security screening process. Good Luck

please do not take small children in the hopes that the consular officer will be sympathetic.. it does not work like that. DO NOT take the children in this heat and yes, there will be long waiting times at the consulate
