Can i wear gold necklace and pass through customs in India without paying customs duty.

Recently i bought a gold necklace for my sisiter''s marriage from kuwait. I later realise a male can''t carry more than ?50,000 worth of gold, so i went through the customs website and it says i have to pay 10% customs after i declare it. Some of my friends advise me to wear while travelling in order to avoid paying the customs. Is wearing a necklace a good idea while travelling?

If they check you and find that Gold is New. They will ask to pay tax 10%.

It happens with me in Ahemadabd Arport,

it happens rarely.

Please do not think you will escape from the customs if you wear it. During my last year travel, I saw customs made a lady to remove all the jewellery she wore including her studs. And they weighed and reduced 40g and asked her to pay customs charges for the remaining. If you take a gold coin or biscuit eve if it''''s 10g, you have to show the bill or you have to pay duty. Or they will confiscate.

Please don''t take iPhone, TV...you have to pay duty for all. It''s as per Indian market price. Please carry the bill. If you have new iPhone purchased through installment started using it only for a month, please carry the evidence it''s through installment and subscription details. Or you have to pay for duty.

My advise dont wear it since you are male. Take the bill and also your sisters wedding card with you or show them the card soft copy. They will allow you without taxes.
