Please stop contacting those stupid friends who are making you more and more confused. first you decide where you want to invest. Then check from the official source. Many schemes like Mutual Fund etc are allowed for NRIs where as some few schemes NRI cannot invest.

CONFUSION !!! CONFUSION !!! CONFUSION !!! CONFUSION !!!
@ Shan,
u r right in your wordings. sorry for my wordings. PLS READ LEGAL instead of ILLEGAL. By the way, many NRI''s are now heavily investing in India due to SENSEX crossed 50K, and many of them getting excellent returns too. I, too am thinking to invest in Indian schemes but am little bit hesitant to invest , as Indian Govt. is becoming more vigilant now for NRI''s.

Let me try to remove the confusion. Post office schemes like KVP, NSC, - NRI are not eligible to invest. Mutual Funds - Yes NRI can invest. You can directly transact on the portal of the Asset Management company of your choice. Choose DIRECT schemes only, which save on commission. The commission charged by AMCs on REGULAR schemes is more, hence avoid. Consult your financial advisor if you are new in this field.
