You can do online cancellation,, better to contact some typing center,, they will assist. And for the money to credit back to your account, it might take up to 2 months

Firstly make a soft copies of an application letter, civil id copy and Bank IBAN number. Then visit the website portal.mew.gov.kw Use the english translation and choose meter services. click on leaving the facility. Then enter your details with paci number and civil numbers. You will be requested here to upload the above soft copies. Once done an enquiry number will be generated. The very next day some officer will go into the portal and ask you to update your meter reading and pay the charges. You can click the bill payment and either enter the meter reading physically or use the camera icon and take a picture of the meter. Once this is entered the system will automatically calculate the charges and you need to pay by K-NET. Once this is done the very next day an officer will issue 3 documents containing the NOC, Insurance refund letter and Zero balance declaration. This can be seen as links appearing when you log on to your portal. Then need to wait for at least 2 months to get the money. If we haven''t received it then need to take an appointment from the MEW website and then visit the South Surra MEW Office and they would check and assist you.

@George: Thanks for that wonderful explanation. May i ask you one more thing, Do you have any idea about transferring the deposit amount to another building? Recently i changed my flat and need to know if the deposit amount of the previous flat can be reassigned to the new flat meter. Thanks in advance.

I did the cancellation yesterday at South Surra head office. The procedures were easy but they made me wait for 3 to 4 hours. Very bad experience.

Hai R, My case was little different as I didnt even know there an appointment system. So on 09/12/2020, I went to salmiya MEW office for cancellation but they didnt allow me inside. My friend told me if you take appointment now, you will get the appointment date for December end. Since I have to travel before that I went to South Surra directly (without appointment) and requested the security guy to let me inside (kind of vaastha) and once inside I was able to do the cancellation. Only issue is, it will take 3 or 4 hours min due to Kuwaiti people rude behaviour. Documents that I took are: Previous deposit receipt, Meter reading print out, Civil id copy, Building contract, IBAN number paper from bank.

@Joy No transfers of deposits is permitted. New building you need to pay the deposit separately.

@Mathew Application letter needs to be typed or written and signed. Then can be scanned and uploaded. The content would just be leaving the facility and refund of insurance deposit.

I did through a Bengali. I sent the meter reading picture, my civil id copy and the IBAN no to his WhatsApp. I got the refund in my account in one week. He charged 25KD. I didn''t visit any office. Post your number here so that i can send his contact number

can someone advice as to what the deposit amount works out to be - I mean is it worth all the trouble. if you have been working in Kuwait for sometime I think its best to avoid all this trouble except getting an NOC for travel

Can any one advice, I have all paper of cancelled Old Meter and also "No Pending Dues Certificate" from the MEW, Salmiya office. ( They call it Waraf al dammah), So how to submit for refund, is it can be done Online Refund application? Or by going personally only with Bank Details ( account # & IBAN #)etc?

@R Even mine is showing Pending with Technical Supervisor, How many days did it take to get NOC. I have paid the dues and no balance amount left. they even removed meter cables and posted photos in the portal. it been pending since 28 December. Any Idea ?

@Mathew after uploaded meter photo they update new meter reading ask for payment I made payment on 31st dec and uploaded the payment receipt after uploading on 2nd Jan I received massage from Mew and once I login I found all the clearance documents bit strange on holiday I received the noc may be they are working on holiday too

@Mathew once u login mew portal click on my transaction then u click on the transaction number with eye symbol ull able to see all the details in brief u can find ur civild link above the link there u can see transaction file it’s disable when they upload meter reading that time its enable u can clink the link and attach ur payment receipt and u may see all ur document which u uploaded at beginning

A week ago, I applied Electricity cancellation through website portal.mew.gov.kw. I uploaded Cancellation request letter, IBAN, Civil ID. It generated ransaction number. But no reply from them. I was waiting for their reply to upload meter reading,etc. But no reply. Has any one recently applied through online and got reply ?

Yesterday 20/4/21 evening I applied through the mew portal for cancellation as per the above procedure posted by George. Today 21/4/21, I got a status update in the portal itself like this "Dear customer, please visit Abdullah Al-Mubarak customer services office tomorrow at 10 am and bring all the required documents + a photo of the meter" (was in Arabic and translated). I will go tomorrow and will update....
