The Independence Day of India or also known as ‘India Day’, is a major festival of India, which commerates the freedom of our country from the British rule that was attained on 15th August, 1947.
The festival is celebrated on 15th of August because it marks the day when we became a self-reliant and free country. This day reminds us of the brave and courageous souls who laid down their lives for our motherland.
The theme this year for the 78th Independence Day is ‘Viksit Bharat’ which complies with the governor’s motive of converting India into a developed country by 2047.
This pioneering vision focuses on the development on various parts such as infrastructure, technology, healthcare and education, working towards elevating India’s international stand. The theme makes itself evident to elevate the economic growth, betterment of society and development, making India a country where natives and foreigners can thrive.
When the Britishers arrived India, there was a negative impact. India was a valuable country to them because the country was rich in spices, jewels and textiles. It also had a huge population. After the arrival of the Britishers, There were unemployed people, hunger, lack of education and no healthcare. When anger and injustice got up to the Indians, they decided to revolt against them. The first revolt was The Revolt of 1857 or Sepoy Mutiny, but the revolt failed due to- the lack of unity, it did not spread to other parts of India and the Britishers were well equipped but the Indians were not. The revolt was led by Bahadur Shah Zafar who was later exiled. The first organized revolt against the British was the Attingal Outbreak in Kerala. Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Subhas Chandra Bose, etc., brought India to independence.
Major Highlights of the 78TH Independence Day-
• THE RED FORT CEREMONY-The main point of the celebrations was the legendary Red Fort at New Delhi.
• PRIME MINISTER NAREDRA MODI unfolded the national flag and delivered a speech talking about the government’s achievements and future plans.
• GRAND MILITARY PARADE-A breathtaking display of India’s military strength, demonstrating the armed forces’ expertise and discipline.
• [The parade will feature modern weaponry and traditional battalion, showing the strength and unity of the nation]
• NATIONWIDE TREE PLANTATION-As part of the celebrations, The Ministry of Defence will take on a huge15 lakh tree plantation across the country for Independence Day.
• [The drive is a part of the Ek Ped Ke Maa Naam {A tree in the name of mother} campaign and will be conducted through 3 services and associated organizations.
• PATRIOTIC FERVOUR-The nation will be celebrating with people decorating their homes, hoisting flags and participating in competitions. Public places will be adorned with decorations, sing patriotic songs and engage in cultural fests.
• SCHOOL CULTURAL ACTIVITIES-School kids play cultural dances and songs celebrating India’s rich heritage and strong unity.
• NATIONWIDE ENGAGEMENT INITIATIVES –The Ministry of Defence, in collaboration with MyGov aims to inspire patriotic fervor among the old and young people through interesting activities. The activities mainly are- nationwide quiz competitions, reel-making contests, patriotic dress contests, painting contests, and essay contest to bring their personal expressions of being patriotic. [These competitions are made to have a deeper appreciation for India, remembering freedom fighters and to unite citizens. • AWARDS AND HONORS- Brave soldiers and natives that provide notably are honored with awards. These acknowledgements honor acts of braveness, dedication and great service accept these people’s contribution to national pride.
• AT HOME RECEPTION- The President of India hosts an At-Home Reception at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, attended by various dignitaries, including the Vice President, Prime Minister, and other high-ranking officials.
• STATE-LEVEL CELEBRATIONS-Similar flaghoisting ceremonies, parades, and cultural programs are held in other states and capitals in India.
• PUBLIC PARTICIPATION-Citizens engage in different community events such as flag hoisting ceremonies and cultural events.
• LIVE BROADCASTING-People who are not able to go there can easily see it from their homes broadcasting live from the Red Fort.
• LIGHTING- In the evening, important buildings and monuments are beautifully decorated with lights.
