India is a country of rich heritage of diversity. It is a country of many languages, variety in food, and even various religions. Many years ago, in the days of Mahatma Gandhi, who is presently called father of our nation, the British who ruled India for about 200 years, believed that this dissimilarity could divide them. Turns out, they were wrong. This only made the Indians stronger and more willing to rule out the British from their country.
There were protests and chaos everywhere. There were many brave acts carried out by the people of India. For example, the Quit India movement. It was started by Mahatma Gandhi, on the ninth of August, in 1942. It was accomplished to end the British’s rule in India i.e., they forced the British to leave India. Gandhiji asked the people “Do or Die”.
Independence Day is celebrated on August 15, 1947. Later Jawaharlal Nehru (who’s birthday we celebrate as Children’s Day) was announced as the first Prime Minister of India, along with Dr. Rajendra Prasad who was appointed President.
India’s national flag is called and Tiranga in Hindi (तिरंगा) and Tricolor in English. It was formed on 22 July 1947. It consists of three horizontal lines, saffron, white (with a blue chakra), and green respectively. However, each color has its own significance :
Saffron:It represents the strength and courage of our country India.
White: It represents its peace and truthfulness with Dharma chakra.
Green: It represents the fertility and the growth of the land in India.
Independence day is a great event which is to be celebrated by every Indian in every corner of the world for the victory of India. It is celebrated by singing anthems, waving the flag high in the air with pride, and organizing many events. It is celebrated in many places like schools. Have you ever looked down the translation of the Indian anthem? The last few words, jai hind, means victory to India. So…JAI HIND!
