The Indian Independence Movement was a series of historic events aiming to end British rule in India. The movement spanned from 1857 to 1947. The first revolutionary movement for Indian independence emerged from Bengal. The inspiring figures in this struggle are:
Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, B.R. Ambedkar, Subhas Chandra Bose, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Rani Laxmi Bai, Mangal Pandey, Bahadur Shah Zafar, and many more.
The slaughter of innocent Indians at Jallianwala Bagh which happened in Punjab shocked the entire country to a great extent and exposed the British rule for what it truly was.
The Non-Cooperation movement from 1920 to 1922 was one of the first mass movements launched by Gandhiji, seeking swaraj or self-government for all Indians.
One of the most inspiring people of the Indian freedom movement, Subhas Chandra Bose is best known as the man who took the fight against the British by leading the Azad Hind Fauj.
India’s fight for freedom which culminated in independence for one-seventh of the human race on 15 August 1947 was a very long and strenuous struggle lasting numerous decades. It had many unique features which made it remarkable when compared to freedom struggles in other parts of the world. The most distinct feature of our freedom struggle was its peaceful and non- violent nature.
