IIK Independence Day

As Midnight Struck The Clock

-- Reyna Mary John, IIK Young Reporter

Wednesday, August 5, 2020

Midnight struck the clock,
And as the rest of world slept,

Freedom came to knock
Upon our nation’s door,

Today is the day we remember,
the years that have past,

Our flag, so old and loved,
Has now last,

Lives were given to heaven,
For our sake alone,

And for each we remember their courage,
In the combat zone,

Our country so old and rich,
With treasure worth more,

than all the wealth in the world,
power means nothing,

and with nothing we brought,
the British to their knees,

glorious is my country,
and proud here I stand,

this Independence Day,
I shall wave my flag,

Jai ho!
