This tricolor flag is the part of our (Indian) national identity, it’s a pride for every Indian.

It is a horizontal tricolor of deep saffron (kesari) at the top, white in the middle and dark green at the bottom are equally measured. In the center of the white band is a navy blue wheel which has 24 spokes. The saffron color indicates the strength and courage of the nation. The white middle band indicates peace and truth with Dharma Chakra, and the green band shows the fertility, growth and the successfulness of our land. The Dharma Chakra (circle) shows that, there is life in movement and death in unproductivity. The ratio of its length and width is like 3:2, and the chakra (circle) approximates to the width of the white band.

The design of the national flag was adopted by the Constituent Assembly of India on 22 July 1947. The proposal of the flag to the Indian National Congress was made by Mahatma Gandhi (India’s Father of Nation) in 1921. In addition to that, the flag was designed by Pingali Venkayya, the farmer and the Indian freedom fighter. The flag, by law, is to be made of khadi, a special type of hand-spun cloth of cotton or silk made popular by Mahatma Gandhi. The right to manufacture the national flag of India is held by the Khadi Development and Village Industries Commission, who in turn allocates it to the regional groups.

The National Flag of India has to be hoisted in day light in between sunrise and sunset. It has to be hoisted in horizontal direction with the saffron color on the top. No other flag or any symbolic representation should be above it. One must never use the national flag of India to cover tables, lecterns, podiums or buildings. When the display of the flag takes place indoors, then it must always be on the right. This is because; right is the position of authority. The flag must always be on the speaker’s right hand, when the display of flag occurs next to a speaker. Most noteworthy, whenever the display of flag takes place, it should be completely spread out.

In conclusion, Tiranga (national flag) of India is the pride of our nation. Furthermore, the Indian flag represents the sovereignty of the country. It is a moment of sheer proudness and happiness for every Indian to watch the Tiranga flying. The Tiranga deserves the utmost respect of every citizen of India in and outside India.
