“At the stroke of midnight hour, when the world sleeps, India will awake to life and freedom”.

These were the words spoken by our first Prime Minister Sri. Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru at midnight on 15th August, 1947 when India got Independence.

Wishing you all a very ‘Happy Independence day’. India is a country of various religions, castes, cultures, traditions and Independence Day brings all Indians together irrespective of their differences. So we are a country of ‘Unity in Diversity’.

After 200 years of British rule and slavery, India got independence on 15th August 1947. Independence Day is the celebration of freedom, freedom of speech, freedom of thought and freedom of action. It is celebrated to remember the great heroes like Subhash Chandra Bose, Mahatma Gandhi, Bhagat Singh, Lala Lajpat Rai and many more who sacrificed their life in getting India’s independence. In India, schools and offices remain closed on this day as it is declared public holiday, though various programs and competitions like dance, quiz, patriotic songs, sports etc., are held in schools. All the children will be extremely happy and excited on this day as there will be lots of chocolates and sweet distribution in schools.

The celebration of Independence Day starts with Prime Minister hoisting the tricolor national flag ‘Our Tiranga’ at Red Fort followed by various programs like march past, acrobatic bike shows etc. Our honorable Prime Minister also gives his speech that inspires everyone.

Tiranga: Our national flag is a symbol of pride for our country. It is rectangular in shape. It is also called as ‘Tiranga’ as it is having three colours. The topmost color is saffron, white is in the middle and lowermost color is green. Saffron stands for ‘sacrifice’, white stands for ‘peace’ and green stands for ‘prosperity’. There is a 24 spoked wheel, known as ‘Ashoka Chakra’, in the center of the flag. Our national flag is made up of Khadi cloth. We must always respect and honor our national flag.

National anthem is sung with great pride on this special day. The live telecast of the whole celebration at Red Fort will be shown on National television. National flag is also hoisted in every state capital by its chief minister.

Independence Day make us feel that even with all the diversities we are one. So on this Independence Day let us all feel proud to be Indians and take oath to make our country a great nation. Being a part of Indian community residing in Kuwait we should continue to keep up its good name as a law-abiding community, and to maintain the trust and confidence of the government and people of the friendly country ‘Kuwait’.

Jai Hind
Bharat mata ki Jai
