History of Magnificent Kuwait National Day!

Bursts of colours splashing through the night sky, the Kuwait towers awaken under the joy of the National day of Kuwait. The beauty of Kuwait during national day could not be described but only felt.

The vibrant fireworks never fail to mesmerize us. Have you ever wondered why we celebrate the national day? Well, let me enlighten you. Back in the seventeenth century , Kuwait was a small fishing village but at the end of the eighteenth century it was highly flourished to an extent of great power and it became a key trading port and ship building centre. This growth was incredible and by 1756, the Al- Sabah family became the rulers of Kuwait marking the legacy that continues until this very day. In 1899 , instead of direct rule from the Ottoman Empire, Sheikh Mubarak agreed that Kuwait would become a British Protectorate, with Britain providing naval protection in return for Kuwait allowing Britain to control its foreign affairs. On 19 June 1961, Kuwait finally attained independence form the British and Abdullah Al-Salim Al-Sabah became an Emir. Usually, most countries would celebrate their national day on the date they attained independence. In Kuwait, this would mean National Day would be on 19 June, keeping in mind the date of independence was 1961. In fact, the first National Day holiday originally took place on this date in 1962. However, it was felt that the holiday should be moved due to the extremely hot weather in June, and so for the welfare of the public the National Day was moved to 25th February when the Sheikh who was in power at the time of independence, Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah came into power in 1950. The history of Kuwait’s national day is indeed a delight to be written about. Therefore , we hope to have a hell of a day on 25 th February 2020. Happy national day! One more thing, Thank you so much Kuwait for protecting and providing a home for us. We love you to the moon and back!
