MoH planning to increase delivery charges for expatriates in Maternity hospitals

Ministry of Health is working to increase the fees for expatriates on delivery related services at the country’s maternity hospitals.

The Minister of Health Sheikh Bassil Al-Sabah informed this in a session of the National Assembly on Wednesday in response to a speech by MP Safa al-Hashim.

MP Safa al-Hashim said that large number of expat women come on visit visa to Kuwait especially to deliver babies for just KD 3 fees. Hence due to this there has been overcrowding at maternity hospital and cause of long lines.

Currently expatriates are not paying any additional fee for delivery in government hospitals in Kuwait.

Dear Minister please calculate each year how much govt. spent for expat medical service and how you are getting on account of health insurance. Expat paying insurance for nothing, may be less than 10% expat utilizing govt. hospitals and clinics.

Please check the facts before speaking.
(1)It is no longer KD 3/-
(2)No airline takes a pregnant lady after the 7th mnth.
(3) Civil ID required and not Visit visa.
Anyways, we are in your country! God Help us.

This decision is good. But a lady has a Residence permit in Kuwait dont charge the fees. If a lady in visit visa and for delivery must charge more fees.

Why not just charge those who come on visit visas for delivery.

I have not heard anyone coming to Kuwait to admit in the maternity hospitals. The cost of spending in homecountry for maternity is absolutely lesser than the cost coming to kuwait, renting room and other expenses again travelling back.

Such a claim by the minister should be backed by solid statistics. Or Else its just a money making gimmick at the cost of the expats..
I feel those expats with valid residences should be exempted from this rule.

Dear Safa Madam
For your kind information the MOH raised their fees in the month of October 2017. In which normal delivery was KD 50 and C section was KD 50 plus additional bed charges of KD 10 per day. So how are you telling expatriates pay KD3 for pregnancy.

I think wrong information given to MOH, i''m expat and have paid 50 KD for only delivery charge and on every visit i''ve paid 10KD stamp for doctor and many 5,2,5,10,30,3,1.5 KD stamps taken for tests. and note there is no facility to delivery baby in hospitals on visit visa they will ask civil ID as this is must. Also delivery charges was 2 or 3 KD previously and it was increased to 50 KD in 2017 only than how can increase again in that shot period. anyway MOH wants than it will happen but think for poor people also please.

after seven month of pregnancy nobody would like to travel long journey, and second think doctor and airline are not allowing to travel the lone journey every body like to safe a life. and now a days public clinic cost is to much high. when family is coming on visit visa the cost of treatment is different. check it out you take the passport and go to the public hospital and see the normal charged for the treatment.

These Xtra smart people have been leaving in 2015. There is no longer KD 3 for delivery. It was earlier, what it''s they have no idea. Safe game to play, the name of the game is "expat-expat"
One needs to pay for every single visit to any maternity + various test + delivery charges. Above all if anyone stays beyond 3rd day, it''s charged too.
Having said so, if there is any misuse then tackle the damn misuse. Charge them whatever you want.
