Bhavans Makes A Bold Statement in Edumeet 2019

When the whole world is silent, even one voice becomes powerful. We often learn to raise our voices, take big risks and question everything. Mastering the art of asking questions and expressing one's opinions in a constructive manner is essential to creativity and innovation, and this is exactly what a debate teaches its participants.

IMWA (Indian Muslim Welfare Association, Kuwait) conducted an inter-school debate competition, EDUMEET 2019 at SIMS (Salmiya Indian Model School) on May 3, 2019, with the center of the debate revolving around the topic "Is our current education system preparing our children for a better future?"

The undaunted and intrepid debaters from Indian Educational School, Kuwait had set the stage on fire with their thoughtful speeches, fiery rebuttals, and spontaneous answers and were greeted with thunderous applause as the school bagged the overall debate championship for the year 2019-20.

The debate was judged by an eminent panel of professionals as debaters from 8 schools fought long and hard to kiss and lift the championship trophy. 18 debaters, 2 representing each school and an additional home team from IMWA took part in a fiery debate for both against and for the motion. The judges asked several inquisitive questions to the debaters as they tested their knowledge of the topic and their quick thinking.

Indian Educational School Kuwait was represented by two of its exemplary debaters –Liana Maria Joseph from 11A and Joel George from 12 A.

This dynamic duo was declared the winners of the debate competition with Liana Joseph winning the first position and Joel George securing the first runner up. Their amazing performance that evening had helped Bhavans further secure its high ranking in the field of interschool literary competitions as the contestants walked home, arms laden with gifts and hearts filled with contentment and pride.

The IMWA EDUMEET organizers congratulated the winners on their triumph. Mr. T. Premkumar, the principal, IES and Mr. N.K. Ramachandran Menon, the chairman, IES congratulated the champions wholeheartedly. They also extolled the efforts of the English Department of IES which brought many laurels to the institution.
