Pieced and Peaceful (My school)

Nehal Ahmad (Ex Student.ICSK Salmiya. Presently a medical student) Monday, March 20, 2017

A splendid summer morning as I sipped coffee from my mug simultaneously drawing the curtains of my room; I laid my eyes on an old but beautiful red and yellow building; my school. It’s been ages since I last saw him; as I landed Kuwait only yesterday. Ostensible silence filled in the room. I couldn’t help but gaze with the glittering gleam of his reflection in my eyes. Time offers us with memories; to turn those memories into a gift or scar is by how we treat it. As I perpetually stared at him, I could picture him speak to me. It seemed as if he cried out my name, as if he wanted me to re-live my childhood. I could figure him sighing silently in my ears: “I miss you”. Agony and nostalgia rushed in the aura. “The feeling is reciprocal” I replied with more than most anguish in my eyes. If not in the hearts of all the people, but at least in the heart of this place; I still reside to bring out the feeling of felicific contentment.

“Kya hua beta?” someone gently tapped my back with a tender touch; meanwhile I was immensely pre-occupied in an alluring and advancing nostalgia. Ammi it was. Who else could that be? Though my eyes weren’t wet, she asked me “kyu ro rahi ho?” My lips didn’t move except for the most inconspicuous smile I wore. “I don’t cry in pain, I smile instead” my heart whispered to me; “And perhaps that’s how we make peace with our pieces.” Coffee had turned cold… just like time froze.
