New municipality law to effectively tackle building violations

KUNA Thursday, December 22, 2016

Municipality's new law is a quantum leap and will curb violations regarding buildings and encroachment of State's properties, Kuwait Municipality Director General Ahmad Al-Manfouhi said.

Addressing a seminar organized by Kuwait Institute for Judicial and Legal Studies late Wednesday on Law No. 33/2016, Al-Manfouhi added that the previous Law No. 5/2005 included several loopholes related to building violations.

But, the new one will work on tackling all these negative aspects and violations, he stressed, revealing that it set regulations and punishments against violators like removing unlicensed buildings, cutting off electricity and others services.

The new bill has not been experienced so far, but still appreciated, he said, indicating that the municipality will ask the legislative authority to add some technical points to the law.

The official affirmed that the act has been prepared well and would contribute to addressing several violations.

Hope someone will address the issue of leasing the basements and not providing for parking for the tenants; thereby police removing the no. plates for parking in unauthorized places. Also, on the conversion of 1 Bedrooms to 2 Bedrooms and squeezing the expats with high rent for small flats.
