The Enchantment of Diyas, Rangoli, Lanterns, and Sweets at Diwali*

Diwali, one of the most special festivals in India, is also known as the Festival of Lights. It celebrates the victory of good over evil and light over darkness. While preparing for Diwali, there are four things that bring so much joy to this great celebration: Diyas, Rangoli, Lanterns, and Sweets!

Diyas are small oil lamps that are made of clay. Lighting the Diyas is one of the oldest traditions of Diwali. They are placed around the house in order to guide the goddess Lakshmi, who is the goddess of wealth, into our homes. Diyas also symbolize the light within us that helps us in conquering darkness and negativity.

Rangoli is another important part of Diwali. It is an art form in which various types of designs are drawn on the ground by individuals using coloured powder, rice, or even flowers. Rangolis are drawn near the entrance of homes to welcome any guest coming inside and for good luck. They are creative methods of showcasing their happiness and joy that Diwali brings with it.

Lanterns are also hanged outside the house. The lanterns, which are popularly known as *kandils*, come in different shapes and colours and give a night of magic. They are a symbol of hope that enlightens the sky and beautifies Diwali.

No Diwali is complete without sweets! Sweets such as laddoos, barfis, and jalebis are made and distributed among family and friends. They bring sweetness into our lives and represent the joy of giving and celebrating together. Offering sweets during Diwali is one way to spread love and happiness with everyone around us.

This is not only about the lights, colours, and sweets; it is a time for diya, rangoli, lanterns, and sweets that add to the brightness of Diwali, making it full of colour and joy.
