Move to implement sponsor approval for domestic workers to travel out of country

Interior Ministry is studying the possibility of making the sponsor’s or representative’s written consent mandatory for domestic workers to travel outside the country, local daily Arab times reported citing Al-Shahed Arabic newspaper.

According to report, this step is following the escape of domestic workers to their home countries after committing crimes.

The report added the Interior Ministry will oblige the sponsor or his/her representative to sign a document at a local police station in his/her area permitting the domestic worker to leave. The signed document will then be attached to the passport of the worker which will have to be produced at the immigration counter before departure.
