Splendid performance by India in Asian Air Rifle Shooting Championship in Kuwait

India’s junior team has so far won six medals in the ongoing 8th Asian Shotgun & 11th Asian Air gun Championships in Kuwait 2018 with one gold, three silver and two bronze. The championship is being held at Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Olympic Shooting Complex at Kuwait city. India's junior team with 12 shooters and 4 coaches are in Kuwait to attend the tournament. "With the presence of many top performers we are expecting a great show in Kuwait," teams high performer coach for Rifle Olympian Suma Shirur told in an exclusive chat with IndiansinKuwait.com. Junior team's pistol coach and Arjuna Award winner Jaspal Rana was also present during the chat.

In the second day match, India’s 10m air rifle mixed team pairing of Elavenil Valarivan and Hriday Hazarika struck gold at the 11th Asian Championship with a junior world record score in the final in Kuwait City on Tuesday.

Mehuli Ghosh and Arjun Babuta won bronze in the same event.



In Monday, the first day of the tournament, juniors team had begun their matches with three silver and a bronze medal with Elavenil finishing third in the individual women’s air rifle junior competition and silver in the team format. Mehuli and Arjun won silver in the team competition.



The Pistol matches will be starting from Thursday at Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Olympic Shooting Complex at Kuwait city.

Indian team is strong enough to perform in the tournament with many star players including the World record holder Elavenil Valarivan, Manu Bhaker - the gold medal winner in Commonwealth Game this year, Saurabh Chaudhary, who won a gold medal in the 2018 Asian Games, Mehuli Ghosh the silver medalist at youth Olympics last month.

"We are very proud to represent our country in Kuwait," Olympian Suma Shirur added.



Earlier, the Ambassador of India to Kuwait HE Sri K Jeeva Sagar hosted a Diwali dinner reception for the Indian team at the Indian Embassy. "As we are living away from our home and our family members during this Diwali, it was very nice of the Indian Ambassador to receive us at the Diwali here in Kuwait," Suma Shirur added.

The tournament will be concluded on 11th of November.
