SIMS Organizes SCIMA – The Portal to a new Dimension

Thursday, October 4, 2018

Knowledge is power, information is liberating and education is the premise of progress.
Education is, however, the most powerful weapon with which you can change the world. We, at SIMS, believe this and SCIMA 2018 only serves to reinforce this belief.

SCIMA – the Science & Mathematics week was officially inaugurated on 26th September, 2018, at Salmiya Indian Model School. The inaugural function of the third edition of SCIMA began at 9am with the recitation of the Holy Quran, and was inaugurated by officiating Principal Mrs. Anita Sadanand. Also present were KG Supervisor, Mrs Jyothi Menon, Heads of Departments, escorting teachers of participating schools and students.

The Preliminary round of ‘ExQuizit’ was conducted to round up the 4 teams - out of 13 participating schools – who would proceed to the Final Round.

Archimedes the greatest mathematician of his age, once said “Give me a lever long enough and a fulcrum on which to place it, and I shall move the world.” The pure magic of science is manifested through this line. Nothing is impossible, science just shows the way to transform the impossible into possible, to interpret dreams into reality.

And what can be a better platform than SIMS, where, we truly believe in the dogma of achieving, for an event based on science and mathematics? SCIMA, aptly named, was held at SIMS, spanning over a period of two days, drew not only crowds, but also unadulterated praise from all the dignitaries present.

The students of SIMS surprised us all with their innovations based on several theories of physics, chemistry, biology and mathematics. The entire programme consisted of a quiz contest and an exhibition based on various theories of science. Indeed, when diligence together with merit, acts as a catalyst, it is bound to result in a chain reaction of amazement and thereafter, approbation.
On 27th September, SIMS drew the curtain on SCIMA with the Final Round of ‘ExQuizit’. The four teams that made it to the finals – Gulf Indian School, Learners Own Academy, ICSK (senior), FAIPS - were led to the stage by their respective flag bearers.

The Quiz Master for the evening was Squadron Leader Manish Kumar, a veteran combat pilot from the Air Force, an alumni of XLRI, Jamshedpur and the author of best-selling book "Be Your Own Pilot".

The Finale that began with the recitation of the Holy Quran & Prayer Song, was interspersed with a scintillating dance performance and a soul-stirring rendition of ‘I’m Alive’ by the canaries of SIMS.
ICSK Senior bagged top honours winning the ever-rolling trophy. Learners Own Academy came 2nd and FAIPS 3rd. All participants in the top 2 teams were awarded individual trophies while the team finishing 3rd & 4th received participation certificates.

SIMS Director Dr. Anis Ahmad delivered the Welcome Address while officiating Principal Mrs. Anita Sadanand proposed the Vote of Thanks. Chief Guest Mr. Shaik Abdul Rahiman and Guest of Honour Mr. Abdullah Hasan Takur also addressed the gathering. A brief introduction to SCIMA was given by Mr. Syed Gul Hassan, HOD Science while Mr. Ravi Babu, HOD Math introduced the Quiz Master for the evening.
