India is the largest democratic country in the world. India got independence on 15th August 1947after a long period of struggle. The struggle of freedom fighters still exists in the minds of Indians, I respect them. They struggled a lot for independence. Without them we could not have achieved independence.

On every Independence Day, our Prime minister hoists the National Flag at the Red Fort. The National Flag of India consists of three colours – Saffron, White and Green with an Ashoka Chakra in the middle. The Saffron colour represents the sacrifice of the freedom fighters to free our country from the British rule. The white colour represents peace, and green represents prosperity.

India is going to celebrate the 72nd Independence Day on August 15, 2018. India has gone through several changes over the years. Independent India has achieved a great progress in education, health science and technology. The literacy rate of India is 73%. Health facilities have grown substantially over the years. There are many hospitals with good facilities in India. Science and Technology have been an integral part of the growth and progress of our country. India became the first country to reach Mars on its initial attempt.

In India people with different religion, language, customs and tradition live together with harmony and brotherhood. Despite all these diversities India exists as a united democratic country. We should be proud to be an Indian.
