No decision yet on imposing toll charges on road usage in country

Tuesday, July 17, 2018

Deputy Chairman of the Public Authority for Roads and Land Transport Engineer Saud Al-Naqi affirmed that no study or decision has been taken to impose a toll on road usage in the country. Local Arabic daily, quoting him as saying reported that it is within the authority’s prerogatives to impose such fees according to law.

In order for the authority to impose toll, all roads in the country must be upgraded in advance. This is the only way to justify the imposition, he said. This also requires extensive study, besides providing several alternatives for citizens or expatriates on the manner of imposing such fees, he added.

He indicated the only road that sparks such an idea is Jaber Bridge, and the matter — as being stressed — needs thorough study before a final decision is taken.
