District 20 – Toastmasters Celebrates The Beginning of A New Year

Winds of change blow at District 20 of the Toastmasters fraternity as the reigning District Officers pass the baton to the incoming team. The 1st of July marks the advent of a new term (2018-19), and of a new executive committee which will be headed by District Director DTM Khurram Salman. The new team has some big shoes to fill as the reigning committee spearheaded by Immediate Past District Director DTM Mohammad Makhlouf put up a spectacular term filled with exciting events such as open houses ,debates, contests, blood donation camps etc. The latest was the Executive Committee Training which was held on the 22nd of June, at The Palms Beach Hotel, Kuwait. The training was focused on the importance of team work, education program, commitment to the cause and recognition of the deserved.” The most important take back message was the significance of not just learning, but also passing on that learning”, says one of the trainers.

Toastmasters International is a non-profit organization that is a world leader in communication and leadership development. Headquartered at Colorado, USA, it aims to build a "community of learners" and nurture the innate leadership skills in its members through a systematic way.

District 20 comprises of approx. 129 clubs with more than 2500 members that have 7 Divisions and 30 Areas spread over Kuwait and Bahrain. Each club meets at a particular location, and at a specific time. Anyone with the willingness to learn and grow can attend the meetings as a guest with no entry fee. These clubs operate in English, Arabic, Hindi, Urdu, Tamil and even as Bilingual clubs. To monitor and regulate program quality while maintaining the club growth is a tremendous feat, and District 20 is equipped with DTM Wafaa Salman and DTM Mohamed Saleem to take on those challenges, supported by TM Abdulla Bu Hamed for Arabic Club Affairs. For the new term, Naseema Khan is in charge of Public Relations, TM Venkata Ramana Rao will manage the funds, TM Mary Sharon will head the administration department, while TM Anil Menon will take on the challenge of logistics.

Toastmasters is an experience of a life time. Every meeting is a gold mine of opportunities, and every speech is a step taken toward confidence and self-development. Through that self-development, one finds their way towards leadership. The journey of every leader in the toastmaster’s fraternity began with a single speech. The quality of the reigning District Officers are a testament to the vision of Toastmasters International.
