First District Council meeting (2017-18) of Toastmasters at Kuwait

Toastmasters in Kuwait had the privilege of hosting the first District Council meeting (2017-18) of District 20 comprising of clubs in Kuwait, Bahrain and Qatar. On Friday, 13th October 2017, more than 100 persons, from various professions and members of various Toastmasters clubs in these countries, converged at Hotel Holiday Inn Salmiya for the meeting that is held twice every year at different locations.

“Together we can face any challenges as deep as the ocean and as high as the sky”, Dr Makhlouf, the current District Director of District 20 of Toastmasters International, said on this occasion. During the full day meeting, the leaders of District 20 Toastmasters, shared their vision and strategies for the growth and development of their members and delivered workshops on ways to make the experience enriching for all the members who join Toastmasters at various stages in their lives, to help them professionally and personally. The members engaged in networking through various team activities throughout the day.

Also present on the occasion was the Region Advisor Beth Thomas, who had traveled from South Africa, to share her experience and knowledge. She also delivered a workshop on Thursday, the 12th of October, at Australian College of Kuwait, for the benefit of Toastmasters in Kuwait. She has been a Toastmaster for nearly 25 years and has also served as an International Director at Toastmasters International. She believes the three pillars of being a better communicator are better listening, better thinking and better speaking.

Toastmasters International, with the intrinsic values of IRSE (Integrity, Respect, Service, Excellence) is a non-profit organization based in California, USA, engaged in development of speaking and leadership skills of its more than 352,000 members in 141 countries through 16,400 clubs. This global network is arranged into Regions, Districts, Divisions and Areas for administrative convenience. Kuwait Toastmasters are part of District 20 in Region 11 of Toastmasters International. District 20 consists of 11 Divisions and 42 Areas with more than 180 clubs with more than 4000 members in Kuwait, Bahrain and Qatar.
